About

I am a musician not a politician, so it seems to me that my best contribution to the struggle must be musical. I am assembling and making available music for voice and/or instruments that can be sung or played at rallies and demonstrations, some may be useful in smaller settings, and other songs are appropriate for vigils and more reflective gatherings. Some of this music may be useful simply for the spiritual renewal of people in the movement, drawing us together in solidarity and renewing our faith that, together we can resist the forces of malice, greed, oppression that threaten us.

Here you will find downloadable PDF files with lyrics, chord symbols and notation for each song or instrumental piece. Where possible I’ll also include links to sound or video recordings that I think are good. Most of the transcriptions that I am supplying are not meant to be cast in stone, but rather supply the bare bones which singers and musicians can develop in their own personal style. Most of this music can and ought to be a starting point. Improvise according to your needs, abilities and creativity.

I hope to also use the site as a blog in which I discuss the music and the planning and progress of the resistance. At the moment, I am just trying to upload a lot of material and figure out how to get the site working!

I am deeply indebted to the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. They put out a wonderful songbook called, We Rise: a movement songbook. It’s an excellent collection but it is designed to be projected on a screen, not printed out, and it presents lyrics but not musical notation useful to musicians. A lot of the songs here came from We Rise. I have transcribed them, added chord symbols and put them into a printable format.
